Abel Danan is a young French filmmaker, screenwriter, and producer. He began making films at an early age, drawing inspiration from cinema and global cultures, including Japanese culture. Danan directed several short films in the late 2010s, including Coming Home (2018), Love Cantata (2019), and Canines (2020), the latter of which was selected in competition at the Festival de Gérardmer in 2021.
He made his feature film debut with La Damnée (2024), a psychological horror thriller co-written with Emma Lacoste that blends elements of folklore, mental distress, and genre cinema. The film was selected for the official competition at the Festival International du Film Fantastique de Gérardmer and showcased at other genre festivals, marking a significant step in his career as a director of genre work.
Danan is considered one of the promising new voices in French genre filmmaking, noted for his ability to mix cultural influences with atmospheric storytelling.
